No, I cannot prevent fenceline and direct contact of my pregnant herd with other cattle.

While preventing contact of your pregnant herd to other cattle may not be practical in many situations; your herd will be at risk for exposure to BVD.  How much risk depends on the type of cattle that your pregnant herd has contact with and the timing of this contact.  Contact with high risk cattle during early gestation should be minimized or eliminated if possible.  Vaccination of heifers and cows will be critical to minimizing disease risk for your herd.


Will all cows calving in the same pasture calve in 90 days or less?  (Can you prevent contact of newborn calves with cows that are less than 150 days of gestation.)
