A controlled calving season is a critical management practice for preventing the spread of BVD within your herd if it is exposed to the virus. Calving seasons of less than 90 days allow time for newborn PI calves to be detected and removed prior to the breeding season.  Without limiting your calving season, newborn PI calves may expose cows in early gestation to BVD, creating additional PI calves and ensuring that the disease will continue in your herd for another year.
