No, I do not have a controlled breeding season with the bulls housed seperately from the cows until the next breeding season.

A controlled breeding season would minimize the effects of Trich on your herd if it is exposed to the disease.  Cows that abort due to Trich and then start to cycle again may spread the disease to uninfected bulls.  A controlled breeding season gives you the opportunity to remove cows that are infected with Trich from your herd before they have a chance to expose more bulls to the disease.  It also makes surveillance for the disease much easier through the evaluation of pregnancy rates.

For the purpose of Trich CONSULT a controlled breeding season is defined as 4 months or less.  A breeding season that is 4 to 6 months long is not ideal, but will help to minimize the effects of Trich if your herd is exposed.  However, if your breeding season is greater than 6 months it will be difficult to eliminate Trich from your herd if it is exposed to the disease.  Please reconsider the length of your breeding season.
