Without a controlled breeding season with bulls housed separately from the cows, it will be difficult to remove Trich from your herd.  Cows that abort and then start to cycle again may spread the disease to uninfected bulls.  A controlled breeding season gives you the opportunity to remove cows that are infected with Trich from your herd before they have a chance to expose more bulls to the disease.  

A controlled breeding season is defined as 4 months or less for the purposes of Trich CONSULT.  If you have a breeding season that is 4 to 6 months long, it may be possible to eliminate Trich from your herd, but it will be more difficult. If your breeding season is greater than 6 months eliminating Trich from your herd may not be possible.   

Please reconsider the the length of your breeding season.  Click the go back link to see the controlled breeding season question again.  If you cannot establish a controlled breeding season, your entire herd may need to be treated as potentially exposed to Trich.  There is a vaccine for Trich that you may want to consider using. Please discuss the benefits of using the vaccine with your veterinarian.
